Marvell releases the industry’s most comprehensive network product covers 10GE to 400GE

For friends who are concerned about semiconductors and the Internet, Marvell is definitely a name. Established in 1995, headquartered in Santa Clara, California, with R&D centers in the United States, Israel, India, Germany, and China, with more than 5,000 employees worldwide, more than 10,000 patents, and revenue of $2.7 billion in the fiscal year 2020.

Recently, Marvell also proposed a new company slogan ” essential technology, done right “, not only to do a good job in technology but also to collaborate with customers to truly meet industry needs.

Recently, Marvell announced the launch of the latest four Prestera Ethernet switches and the corresponding Alaska PHY (physical layer) solutions. It is also the industry’s most complete network product portfolio, with advanced telemetry technology, flow-aware intelligence, scalable performance, and advanced Integrated security technology, supporting a full set of connection capabilities for GE, 2.5GE, 5GE, 10GE, 25GE, 100GE, and 400GE.

They constitute a unified software and hardware solution from the access point to the core, supporting multiple architectures, speed, density, and scale requirements.

Let’s first understand the four switches:

98EX56xx 5K series: Positioning at the top level, supporting 96/192 ports under 210/25GE, 24/48 ports under 5/40/100GE, and 100/400GE uplink

98EX45xx 4K series: high-end positioning, 1/2.5/5GE 24/48 ports, 10GE 24 ports, 100G uplink, 400G stack

98DX35xx 3K series: Mainstream positioning, 1/2.5GE 24/48 ports, 5GE 24 ports, 10/25GE uplink/stack

98DX25xx 2K series : Introduction to positioning, 1G 24 ports, 2.5G 8 ports, 10GE uplink/stack

Look at the corresponding PHY:

88X5243P: 25/50/100GE optical cable solution, supports four-way 10GE, 16-port 10/25GE, has the best SerDes, and supports 256bit MACsec encryption

88X35xx: 10GE copper cable solution, supports four ports, 10Mbps-10Gbps six speeds optional

88E25xx: 2.5/5GE copper cable solution, four ports, 10Mbps-5Gbps five kinds of speeds optional, more than 230 meters of super five lines can still reach 2.5Gbps

88E1780: 1GE copper cable solution, eight ports, 10Mbps-1Gbps three speed options, ultra-low power consumption and heat, no heat sink required

In general, all switches share a flexible and scalable Prestera infrastructure, including programmable processing pipelines, flow-aware data processing, and flow management, integrated MACsec/secure startup/storage, flow anomaly detection security sensors, telemetry collection and flexibility Feedback, multi-core ARM CPU running embedded software, SyncE/PTP accurate timing synchronization, can greatly reduce development costs and speed up the time to market.

In terms of PHY products, the copper cable series are in a leading position in terms of wiring range, anti-electromagnetic interference, and low power consumption, while the optical series have better SerDes performance, flexible transmission, and MACsec encryption at ultra-high data rates.

At the same time, the copper cable series are optimized for the 2.5Gbps and 5Gbps transmission speeds required by the Wi-Fi 6 uplink. In particular, the new four-port device 88E25xx can extend the 2.5Gbps Cat5e super five network cable to more than 230 Meters, supporting remote deployment of access points outside the building structure wiring.

Let’s take a look at the technical and performance aspects:

TrackIQ:

It supports accurate line rate real-time telemetry data of network traffic, abnormal conditions, and equipment health, with detailed visibility and operability analysis.

NetIQ:

Supports intelligent data processing at the edge of the network, enabling self-repair, self-adaptation, and feature engineering in AI applications and machine learning.

SecureIQ:

Provide network embedded credibility and advanced security to protect hardware and network software from ever-changing security threats. The new generation of switches integrates a secure boot and IEEE 802.1AE MACsec (Media Access Control Security) engine to provide encryption-based security for all Ethernet traffic passing through network-oriented ports.

performance:

Equipped with Wi-Fi 6-enabled access points and high-performance terminal equipment to facilitate the transition to multi-Gigabit Ethernet connections. Provides cross-network capacity to meet the ever-increasing workload and data cloud bandwidth requirements to ensure network performance and continuity.

In addition, Marvell’s intelligent workload management functions support optimized data processing at or near the edge of the network access, thereby improving the performance of the hybrid cloud architecture. The telemetry function supports the solution to generate data, which can realize network automation and accelerate forensic analysis. Security features further consolidate credibility, provide embedded protection for the network, and effectively block security threats.

In terms of software, Marvell’s new generation of enterprise switches includes SDK software development kits, and adds industry-standard switch abstract interfaces. Network system suppliers can easily migrate between different network chips, and there are also turnkey solutions. (MTS), as well as the white box ecosystem DENT of the Linux Foundation, and the edge-to-cloud infrastructure ecosystem SONiC of the Open Computing Project.

Marvell Alaska PHY and Prestera switches are available now, and the complete product portfolio will be launched at the end of the year.
