Video traffic has become a key factor in networks that demand faster. Video traffic is expected to increase from 56 eb worldwide in 2017 to 240 eb in 2022. Applications such as streaming video, video conferencing, and virtual reality now require higher data speeds. To achieve this type of performance, the network may require a large amount of small cell coverage and will utilize a higher bandwidth spectrum.
At the same time, 5G is also designed as an Internet of Things (IoT) network. To support a large number of devices, many of which require longer battery life, the 5G network will be built on the LTE Advanced Pro platform. 5G will use the platform’s two narrowband technologies, Enhanced Machine Type Communication (eMTC) and Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT), to reduce equipment and network complexity to achieve these support goals.
